A Guide to Comparing CBD Brands

Choosing the right brand of CBD can be intimidating. How can you tell which products are the highest quality, and how do you determine which brand is right for you? The truth is, not all CBD brands are created equal. To make sure the products you’re using are the best, it’s important to do your research and due diligence when it comes to making a choice.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • If a brand shows lab certificates

  • How much CBD a product contains

  • Whether or not a CBD brand is organically grown

Let’s dive in.

Look for the Lab Certificates

Any brand can tell you their CBD products are great, but the only ones worth trusting will have proof that their products have been verified by a third party lab. The lab certificates of products that have been third-party-verified should be readily available on the brand’s website. If they’re not available, that could be a red flag.

Here’s why: if a company doesn’t make their lab certificates visible, it could mean problems were found with the products. For example, the lab could have found inconsistencies with the amount of cannabinoids the product claimed to contain and the amount that actually showed up in testing. It’s even possible that the lab found the product to contain contaminants or harmful ingredients. Maybe the company simply forgot to put the reports on their site, but without the proof a lab analysis provides, there’s no way to know.

To ensure you’re getting a quality product, stick with brands that show their lab certificates. And be careful — in some cases, companies will only provide lab reports after a product has been purchased or if you directly request to see the report. While putting a little effort into seeking out a lab certificate isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if a company isn’t responding to your request or has too long of a process for obtaining documentation, they could have something to hide.

When you take a look at the report, make sure it verifies that the CBD product is free of contaminants like heavy metals or bacteria.

Check the CBD Content

One of the most important things a lab report will tell you is whether or not a CBD product’s actual cannabinoid profile and concentrations match what’s stated on the label.

The lab report will list out all the cannabinoids found in the product as well as how concentrated they are. For example, our Broad Spectrum CBD Oil contains 1000mg of CBD, which is confirmed on our lab report for that product.

Take a Look at the THC

A lab report will also confirm whether or not a product comes in at or below 0.3% THC. A THC percentage below that level means that a product won’t get you high or have any psychoactive effects, and also that its THC content is legal in the United States.

Consider Where the Hemp Was Harvested

CBD products are only as good as the hemp they come from. Unfortunately, in many cases, brands are looking for the cheapest option when it comes to hemp production. Even worse, many inexperienced CBD brands blindly purchase a CBD isolate from wholesale suppliers who claim it was extracted from “organic hemp.” But without a direct relationship with the hemp farm, these brands have no real way of determining just how the hemp is being grown and harvested.

That’s one of the reasons it was so important to us to hand-select where our American, organically grown hemp comes from. It’s a priority that our partners and people share Onyx & Rose’s vision and passion for helping people. Everyone who touches our products accepts responsibility for the health and well-being of our customers, and all of our natural genetic strains of phytocannabinoid-rich hemp are grown in America.

The farms where our hemp is grown meet strict guidelines, and the farmers truly take pride in the health of their land and their crops.

When selecting a CBD brand, your best bet is to always check if they’re willing to disclose what their farming practices are.
