CBD: The Hype, the Misconceptions, and the Truth

Imagine you’re the first salesperson on the floor in the first television store ever. The general public has never seen anything like your product before. Even the concept of it seems impossible: moving, talking pictures that can show you what’s happening at that exact moment, thousands of miles away. For most of your customers, it’s going to be a hard sell. But as word of this miracle box spreads, people gradually open up to the idea. They come to understand how it works, and how it can improve their lives. And eventually, they end up integrating it into the very fabric of their existence.

Honestly, when something comes along with the potential to change everything you know, it’s perfectly natural to be skeptical. But once you have all the facts, it can be a lot easier to accept. And that can prove to be more beneficial than you ever imagined.

CBD extracts are a lot like that. When they were first introduced, they were met with disbelief and discredit. Some people believed CBD was no different than smoking or ingesting marijuana. Many people thought it to be a phony snake-oil gimmick. Others thought it should be banned. In fact, many opinions across the moral spectrum have been applied to CBD. But the truth is: there’s real, proven efficacy in what it can do for systems across the body. When you know the facts, it’s easy to see the potential that CBD has to bring comfort, well-being, and balance to the body and the mind.

So, what’s true and what isn’t?

MYTH:  Marijuana and hemp are the same plant. It’s just semantics.

Marijuana and hemp plants both contain high levels of cannabinoids, which are chemical compounds that act on the body’s own cannabinoid receptors. These receptors may help regulate a variety of physiological processes including pain reception, sleep, appetite, and even your sense of well-being.

But not all cannabinoids do the same thing. When the cannabinoid THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, reacts with the body’s cannabinoid receptors, it can create the psychoactive effects that people associate with being high.

Marijuana plants tend to have higher levels of THC. Our products are derived from hemp plants containing less than .3% THC. This minimal amount of THC is then removed from our Broad Spectrum products to make them 100% THC free. Our Full Spectrum products contain .3% THC, which scientists believe boosts cannabinoids’ efficacy but does not produce psychotropic effects. No matter what product you choose, you’ll get the maximum benefits of a full-plant extract and cannabinoids such as CBD, CBD, and CBG that interact with our endocannabinoid system and its receptors.

MYTH:  All extracts are the same.

Not true. There is wide variation in the quality of extracts found throughout the CBD industry. But at Onyx & Rose, we pride ourselves on doing things the right way. We use pure, high-quality, domestic hemp plants. Our carefully-controlled, laboratory-grade extraction processes preserve absolute purity and a high concentration of cannabinoids that we believe are beneficial in easing pain and discomfort, improving well-being and mood, and relieving a wide variety of other symptoms.

We are proud to offer the highest quality and standards in every CBD product we sell.

MYTH:  Isolated CBD extracts are better than full-plant extracts.

Our experience has found just the opposite. When you look at how nature operates, it’s easy to see that things function better as complete systems. The hemp plant’s beneficial properties are no different. When used together, they tend to create an effect that is better than the sum of its parts. This effect, known as the “entourage effect” means that whole plant extracts will do more than isolates.

By taking isolates, you can end up shorting yourself on the very benefits for which you’re taking CBD. Furthermore, isolated CBD extracts can require higher quantities to have an effect. Since our CBD extracts contain a more complete range of hemp compounds, we believe that they offer better quality and value than any single isolate.

MYTH:  CBD extracts only help humans.

Fortunately, any creature with a spinal column also has cannabinoid receptors. That means that pets may enjoy many of the same benefits that humans get from CBD use. Onyx & Rose has a selection of pet products that may help your beloved furry friend enjoy lower stress levels, a greater sense of calm and well-being, and a more relaxed and enjoyable life. Try our CBD Pet Oil and CBD Dog Treats to see how they can help.

MYTH:  There’s no scientific basis for any of this.

There’s more research than ever to prove that CBD extracts may have legitimate, measurable, positive effects on systems throughout the body. Through studies and collected data, there is strong evidence to suggest that CBD may provide relief from conditions such as insomnia, seizures, chronic pain, mood disorders, joint pain, arthritis, neuropathic pain, and inflammation. There are also many indications that CBD may help restore the balance between the body’s different systems.  There is even evidence to suggest that it can help with the symptoms of debilitating conditions such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. Furthermore, the FDA has recently approved a CBD-derived medicine known as Epidiolex to treat seizures in some rare and severe forms of epilepsy.

This article from Harvard Medical School details some of the studies that continue to prove the positive effects CBD can have on the body.
